Total Solar Eclipse - On August 21st, 2017 I had the privilege to witness the total solar eclipse where the moon completely blocks the sun and only the corona is showing. My husband and son and I traveled to Greenville, South Carolina to stay with my husband's parents at their home. We figured might as well see the eclipse at a place where we can also visit family.
It was a nail biting experience waiting to see if the weather would co-operate and allow us to view the event. Up until the last few minutes there had been off and on cloud coverage and it was not looking to promising. However, around 2 minutes prior to the eclispe the heavens opened up and we had 100% visibility.
I only had around 3 minutes to take my photos. I had set everything up with my tripod and super long lens (800mm with extender) along with my professional grade Nikon camera. I was as prepared as possible.
When the eclipse occurred I immediately felt my heart beating through my chest. I wanted these photos and I had to act fast to compose them and get the shots. I snapped away and fortunately overcame my nerves and powerd through to get some really awesome photos of the eclipse during its many phases along with some nice corona shots including some of small coronal ejections. It definitely helped to be ready in advance.
I was also fortunate to take a minute to also just look up with out the special glasses and see the eclipse with the naked eye and just enjoy looking at this amazing phenomenon. I felt like I was looking at God, it was just that amazing and unusual to see - like nothing else I'd ever seen before in life.
Enjoy viewing my photos of the Total Solar Eclipse and let me know what you think in the comments section. Thanks, Greg Arbutine
